Are cytotoxicity tests in biological studies reliable?
Main Article Content
Abstract
Cytotoxicity is one of the most common tests used inbiological studies to assay whether a compound has some,or any, kind of therapeutic properties on cell types.Although it is a widespread test across disciplines thatrange from pharmacy to biology and medicine, amongstothers, there are factors that alter reliable outcomes. Thesefactors are either laboratory or environmental; and has aneffect on the intercellular and extracellular features celltypes experience, once they are exposed to differentsubstances. The fluctuations in cytotoxicity outcomes are aresult of not only human error, but also the manner inwhich plants/compounds are prepared duringpreliminary experiments. However, it’s possible for thesetests to be conclusive by factoring the phytochemicalconstituents of plant compounds that have an effect on thegenetics of signal transduction events in cells. This impliesthat the work performed on cytotoxicity is valid, however, several questions pertaining to the reliability of testoutcomes still remain. In this paper, the trustworthynature of cytotoxicity tests in biological studies will beconsidered.
