Abstract

This study examines the depiction of environmental and global changes in M. Manikandan's 2022 Tamil film Kadaisi Vivasaayi (The Last Farmer), which received a National Film Award. This study examines the Sustainable Development Goals, emphasising the three-dimensional, multifunctional, and multidimensional features of their connection to economic, social, and environmental sustainability. In recent years, sustainable development goals have emerged as the most relevant social development paradigm, both domestically and internationally. This research examines the aspects of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the storyline of the film "Kadaisi Vivasaayi" and its three dimensions in popular Tamil cinema related to the SDGs. This film presents a distinctive viewpoint on global challenges and environmental deterioration, emphasising their influence on visual narrative. It functions as a robust platform for enhancing awareness and facilitating discourse on these interrelated issues. The analytical section of the research illustrates the film's alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 21st century. This film vividly depicts numerous social and environmental challenges, including industrial animal feeding, hybrid seed cultivation, urbanization, and the high-level practices that farmers maintain in industrialization. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, analyzing environmental, social, and economic factors through the lens of the three pillars of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
